Financial Aid for College

The portal to apply for federal and state financial help for college opens on December 31st this year. I would advise you to wait until mid-January to apply for both, with this being a new system this year. You can now create your FSA ID's--parents and children both need these ID's to complete the FAFSA.

After creating the pin, you may apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA):

At the end of the FAFSA application, you will find the New York State Application/Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) for aid (you must be attending a college in NY). This link for this is at:

*Also - check with the college you are applying to for college specific deadlines regarding Financial Aid, Scholarships, Grants, and the FAFSA

Some colleges will require a CSS in addition to the FAFSA. It is online at:
