Attendance

• You will receive an automated notification via email, text, or phone.
• Follow the instructions in the message to submit a reason for the absence.
• If our automated system is unable to reach the designated parent/guardian contacts, our office staff will follow up.

It can be hard to know when to send children to school if they tell you that they do not feel well. Usually, the best place for them is in school, but there are some times when keeping them home to rest or call for an appointment with your health care provider is recommended. 

 Please keep your child home and/or contact your child’s doctor for: 

• Fever greater than 100.4°  (taken by mouth) 

• Vomiting and/or diarrhea within the last 24 hours 

• Severe sore throat along with fever and feeling ill for more than 48 hours, or after exposure to Strep throat infection 

• Honey-crusted sores around the nose or mouth or rash on other body parts  

• Large amounts of mucous (liquid) from their nose, with face pain or headache 

• Severe ear pain or fluid coming from the ear 

• Severe headache, especially with  fever 

If your child has a fever, it is not a good idea to give them medicine like Tylenol or Advil and send them to school because as soon as the medicine wears off, the fever may return and you will be called to come and pick up your child. 

Your child should be fever free without the use of fever reducing medication for 24 hours and free from Vomiting/Diarrhea for 24 hours. 

If you find your child is frequently asking to stay home from school, if they are falling behind or appear anxious about school, or if there does not appear to be any physical symptoms, contact your school nurse and your health care provider to discuss your concerns.   

Remind children to throw away used tissues, cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze, keep their hands away from their face, and to wash hands often with soap and warm water will help keep everyone healthier.

School begins at 8:00 a.m. The breakfast program will begin upon student arrival and END at 8:30 a.m.  If your child is going to be absent please call the attendance line at 268-7914, or just call the health office before 9:00am.  When your child returns to school, a NOTE explaining the absence needs to sent with him/her, no more that 5 days after the absence.

EXCUSED: Physical illness, Dental, Mental and other Health related appointments.  Physical illness with written parent excuse, judicial, Religious Observance, Extenuating circumstances as judged by the Principal. Education (field trip/band lesson).

UNEXCUSED: An absence, tardiness, or early departure is considered Unexcused if the reason for lack of attendance does not fall into one of the above categories.

If your child needs to be excused early, please send in a written note with your child giving the time and reason for leaving early.

In addition to the above. All absences regardless of Excused or Unexcused designation will count against total student absences for credit.

In order to receive credit for a course, a student must not have more that 22 absences for a full year course or more than 11 absences for a half-year course.

TARDINESS:

If you are Tardy to school, YOUR PARENT MUST SIGN YOU IN AT THE WELCOME DESK.  Then you will be issued a pass to go to your next class. (Do not go to any other office for a pass.)

If you have an excused tardy, give your note to the WELCOME DESK ATTENDANT.

If you are 20 minutes or more late for any class, you will not receive credit for that class.

All Unexcused absences will count towards NO credit for the class.

All work, including tests and quizzes, must be made up during the next study hall or available time after you were late or absent.

Students who practice or participate in athletic contests are expected to be in attendance the entire school day.

Tardy to school will be excused for the following reasons only:

• Late Bus.  
• Illness substantiated by written excuse from parent, doctor or dentist.
• Required legal appearance substantiated by an official document.
• Religious observances substantiated by a parent's note.
