Capital Improvement Project

The project will be funded through:

• Utility rebates $175,000
• Energy Performance Project (EPC) $1,943,124
• NYSERDA grant $1,426,251
• No-tax increase to our community: Borrowed funds with repayment to be offset by New York State Building Aid of $13,971,667

These funds will address needed upgrades across both the Elementary and Middle/High School benefitting all of our students, faculty, and staff.

• Clean Heating and Cooling Improvements including:
  • Replacement of Natural Gas rooftop units with energy efficient units
  • Replacement of classroom ventilator units with new energy efficient units that will handle both heating and cooling in one unit and will include MERV 13 filtration to provide higher air quality within our classrooms.
• Lighting Improvements to replace approximately 1,600 fluorescents with LED lights
• Building Automation System Improvements
  • Reduce building heating and cooling requirements
  • Reduce energy consumption for heating and cooling
  • Regular schedule for review and programming to promote energy efficiency and comfort

• Rising energy costs make efficiency upgrades more important than ever.
• Addressing these needs now avoids higher costs in the future.
• We can integrate this work into the already approved 2023 Capital Project, ensuring efficiency and preventing future disruptions.
• The Heat Mitigation in Public Schools Legislation (S.3397-A / A.9011-A) took effect September 1, 2025.
• The law establishes a statewide maximum indoor temperature for classrooms and support service spaces that would require the District to relocate students and staff to safer environments for maximum temperatures over 88 degrees.
• NYSERDA and Grant funding are available now to cover the local share of the project.
• Modernized systems will improve safety, comfort, and accessibility for all students and staff.
